Graduated from Lincoln High

Somehow I made my way through VMI

Joined the Navy and I learned to fly

That’s what I always dreamed of

There’s a hometown girl who wears my ring

Her name is painted on my starboard wing

Tonight I’m half a world from everything

And everyone that I love.

I wonder how the Yankees did tonight

I sure hope grandma's doin' alright

I wish I knew what momma's cooking for supper

I pray Jane had got my letter and knows how much I love her

Lord knows I got a job to do

I just can’t wait until it’s through

I keep dreamin’ bout that homebound flight

Grandpa did his part for Uncle Sam

Daddy did his time in Vietnam

Now I'm flying over sea and sand

Through unfriendly skies
