I jumped up this morning

Right out of a dream

The front door was wide open

And the rain was blowing in from the street

The whole house felt empty

And I was alone

I could hear somebody ringing

But I couldn't find my way to the phone

I pondered and puzzled

Why all this should be

I got a sneakin suspicion

Someone's putting something over on me

Creeping up inside of me

I looked for my baby

All over in town

I've never seen so many women

Since the day they closed the factory down

Midnight on the river

In the light of the flames

I'm staring at the water
