Well my wife she took off to Memphis

With some fella from our little town

My mother’s at home up in Baltimore

And my daddy is down in the ground

It gets awfully cold here in the winter

Hot and humid in the summer time

I got laid off on account there’s no work for me

It’s the only time I’ve cried in my life

But he smoked himself to death

And they buried him out at Riverview
