When We Were Kids

I remember a time when I was young

Everything was simple

An' life was always fun

We used to sing in the kitchen

We thought everybody did

But that was years ago when we were kids

We lived in a shack on the sand

It was built out of driftwood

By my grandfather's hands

My Dad was a sailor

He made a living catchin' fish

That was years ago when we were kids

Everything was good

We had an old wood stove

And a kerosene fridge

We didn't have TV

But we knew someone who did

And now I got kids fully grown

They've made a new life

With kids of their own

They're still singin' in the kitchen

Just the way that we did
