Every Step of the Way

Pulled on my boots and I set out on that long walk home

Late night I laid down with an angel but I woke up to find she was gone

I felt the sadness all around me on the sidewalk through the Monday morning rain

And it ruined my boots but it was worth every step of the way

And I can see a ray of sunlight breaking through the dark clouds surrounding me

And I can tell not every walk down easy street will land you on your feet alive and well

You never know just where the road is gonna leave you at the end of the day

But I can say it was worth every step of the way

Left my blues and my baggage just lying there tangled in the sheets

So I'll know just where to find 'em when my heavy heart is back on the streets

She put her cool lips to mine and she whispered baby maybe someday

And though her words left me wounded it was worth every step of the way
